Catching Rainbows...

This morning the sky was a playground for raindrops, and as a follow up this afternoon rainbows were falling from it...

It is quite certain that many people, like myself, found themselves out searching for the place where the end of the rainbow stands, in the hopes of finding a Golden Key. This is a very worthwhile thing to find, not because the key is gold, but because it is a Golden Key, which comes along with it's own keyhole and hidden door. And of course, on one side of the door is a quest and the other side opens up onto an adventure. But the rainbow I was looking under simply wouldn't stand still, for try as I might, I couldn't find it's base.

Maybe I live in the wrong sort of time and place to find Golden Keys under rainbows...

... or maybe not...

...maybe I'm just looking under the wrong sort of rainbow. Maybe there are rainbows in our lives- rainbows in the colors of friendships, memories, and dreams- under which Golden Keys can be found. If I look at it that way, maybe everybody is really on the way to catching a rainbow and finding their Key. And if that's the case- which I think it just might be- the quest for the door and it's keyhole is a lifelong adventure that has already begun. That's a rather exciting thought...

"He turned away from it, and the same moment saw a brilliant little thing lying on the moss within a foot of his face. It was the golden key. The pipe of it was of plain gold, as bright as gold could be. The handle was curiously wrought and set with sapphires. In a terror of delight he put out his hand and took it, and had it."
George MacDonald, The Golden Key
