Are you singing?

Like almost every month, February is my favorite month. It's always exciting to watch hints of spring creep into the dormant earth. New life tiptoes into the limbs of the trees, tingeing them with a faint glowing blush that will eventually push forth into soft green buds, and the grass leaps up to cover the hillsides in rolling blankets, and here and there flowers bloom in an explosion of fragrance and color. The blithe new leaves and chipper flowers stand, ever cheerful, in the face of gray winter skies and chill February winds. Mornings, which somehow always seem sunny even if they really aren't, are filled with fresh air and bright ideas as they race forward to become adventure-filled afternoons. As the sun sinks below the western hills, disappearing somewhere beyond the sea, it leaves the world to rest in companionable evenings and dream under starry-eyed nights.

And inside, the cozy fire burns. Cats sleep curled up in happy bundles of fur, purring contentedly under the strokes of their chosen companions. The smell of freshly baked cakes and brewing coffee fills the air, mingling with the murmur of quiet conversations and the steady hum of the hearth. Conversations and laughs are being shared, books are being read, and silent thoughts are being pondered...

February strikes me as being a particularly indecisive month, caught up in between winter and spring and not quite sure which way to go. Depending on your outlook, it could be a cold and dreary month, or a bright and cheery month.

How are you looking at it? Are you letting the gray skies and biting winds blow a chill over you? Or are you thinking about the sun that's still shining? Are you looking at life for it's improbabilities, or for it's possibilities? Are you sulking? Or are you singing?

"Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." -Philippians 4:8
