Some new friends

There's almost nothing better than creating something. A song, a book, a costume, a batch of cookies... the possibilities are endless. Creating something with a personality, though, is when things get really fun. It's always surprising to look down on a finished project, one which you had believed to be inanimate, and find instead that something is meeting your gaze and imploring you to strike up a conversation with it. It's a nice feeling. That's why I've taken up sewing stuffed animals for my soon-to-be niece or nephew...

There are two really great things about making stuffed animals. The first one is simply being able to transform a boring little piece of fabric into a lovable something with ears, a tail, two beady eyes, and a happy demeanor. The second great thing is that when you've finished one, you've also made a new friend to sit on the ironing board and watch while you work on another project. The only sad part is saying goodbye when it's time for them to go to their new homes....

Fabric, washed and ready to go...

End of day one- (mostly) sewn and waiting to be stuffed

A giraffe, a kitten, and a heffalump in the making.
Well, the pattern calls it an elephant, but what with the square ears, the minute trunk, and the purple checks, I couldn't really take it seriously as an elephant. So, it became (and will remain) a heffalump.

Now, all they need is a nursery rhythm....
